We know that young people need education that they can apply to their lives. Especially students who are credit deficient.
Students don’t need “field trips” into the “real world.” They need an education that speaks to the lives they are already living, the world they are already helping to co-create.
Field Academy is the vehicle, literally and figuratively, that support students in immersive experiential education and building strong social networks across the nation.
OUR CAUSE
We see it as necessary for youth to be deeply connected to the place that they live and govern.
We work with students who are not succeeding in the traditional system and act as a bridge for them to re-engage with the world around them and become active members of the community.
Our school is built on exposure to new experiences, information, and opportunities to apply their brilliance.
Education is the pursuit of our deepest most essential curiosities, individually and collectively. Our school is built on student curiosity and moving from a student saying “I don’t know” (the forever cycle of negative response) to saying “I would like,” “I am interested in,” “I can.”
Our mission is to provide programs that connect, engage, empower, and educate young people from across the United States in order to inspire enduring learning and create a just and healthy nation.
OUR MISSION
We were born out of a tiny revolution: a handful of high school kids holding “school” in a van, as we built together a series of summer expeditions to different regions of the US. We have worked in Appalachia, Southwest, and have run 1-7 week summer trips, three educator trainings, and two alumni summits.
From the very beginning, we committed to building a student body that speaks to the actual diversity and complexity of this country - to access for all students, regardless of finances or background.
In the past decade, we have evolved into a organization led and powered by our network of students, teachers, and communities across the United States, who come together to co-create immersive, community-driven, place-based learning experiences for young people, with the goal of engaging in the most critical issues of our time.
